Through strategic advocacy, targeted outreach, and data-informed policy work, Battle Born Kids Matter addresses systemic barriers, from school quality to closing opportunity gaps, while mobilizing Nevadans to support bold, student-centered education reforms.
About Us
Battle Born Kids Matter, a 501(c)(4) separate partner organization to Opportunity 180, is a Nevada-based education advocacy organization committed to accountability that ensures students are graduating high school prepared for their next step; autonomy for schools to best serve students and communities; and expanding access to high-quality public school options for all students. We work to identify and dismantle the barriers that prevent every student from accessing a high-quality education and elevate bold, practical solutions grounded in data and community voice. By cultivating a broad, issue-aligned coalition of families, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders, we drive informed action at all levels. Our vision is a Nevada where every student, regardless of background or zip code, has access to an excellent education and a pathway to success.
What We Believe
Championing Access, Accountability, and Autonomy
Battle Born Kids Matter champions policies that support greater access to quality schools that meet the unique needs of each student, and autonomy for public schools to be able to meet student needs, create more opportunities to learn and engage, and champion student success. Critical to autonomy and access priorities are accompanying accountability measures that ensure programs and policies are working as intended and have a demonstrated impact on student outcomes.
Using Data to Drive Decision-Making
Data provides the common language for all of us to use as we work in service of ensuring every kid has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for the future. By ensuring consistent and clear access to the most up-to-date school data, families, community members and decision makers can have informed conversations and debates about the local and state education ecosystem. This provides a consistent baseline understanding about school performance and how we can work together on behalf of Nevada students.
Aligning Candidates and Elected Leaders to Community Needs
Lasting education change requires leaders who reflect and respond to the needs of their communities. We work to ensure that elected officials and candidates understand the challenges and opportunities facing Nevada schools, particularly in communities that have been historically underserved, and how they can advance practical solutions that are grounded in accountability, access, and autonomy.

Patricia Haddad Bennett, M.Ed is the Executive Director of Policy for Battle Born Kids Matter, where she leads efforts to advance policies that expand access to high-quality education for every student in Nevada. She brings more than a decade of experience in public policy, legislative affairs, and education advocacy in Nevada.
